Perimeter was awarded a $15,000 contract to work with the National Guard on Friday after winning the virtual ‘Beat the Blaze’ hackathon.
The hackathon — hosted by the National Security Innovation Network (NSIN) — presented over 400 registrants with the challenge of improving communications and information sharing between federal agencies like the National Guard and civilian public safety agencies. Perimeter was one of three teams selected by a panel of emergency management officials from a pool of ten finalists and over 30 total proposed solutions.
“The quality of the competition for ‘Beat The Blaze’ was outstanding,” said Kedar Pavgi, NSIN Hacks Program Manager. “Our panel of judges was impressed with the quality of each pitch from our final 10 teams, the competition was fierce, and the viability of the winning solutions is promising.”
As noted in the NSIN article for the event, ‘Beat the Blaze’ was created as a result of demand from the Department of Defense for new solutions following the last few years of devastating wildfires. The event’s strategic partners included the U.S. Air Force 163rd Attack Wing, Hap Arnold Innovation Center, ARCWERX, Arizona State University, University of California at Berkeley, San Diego State University, and the University of Washington’s CoMotion program.
